Is he washing his liver in the tub? What am I looking at? Why is it all so attractive? I am confused and a little overwhelmed. I linked it on #Sharezone to have them explain it to me, but they could not. All who participated seemed to think it was artfully rendered, and I agree. More importantly, is that his liver?

first explain #sharezone.. i'd love to read what they thought...but couldn't find it..i wouldn't want to say what I think is going on here specifically...but; it's from a series about growing up in the 60s and 70's called "the alone together family".. this particular one titled "standing on shaky ground"...maybe everything looks normal at first glance, than i hope you sense something edgy, disturbing (yeah, your interpretation of the "liver/washcloth" definitely applies )... like a Rorshock Ink Blot, the meaning depends more on the viewer's life experience than my own...an illustration has only one interpretation, a narrative painting requires a viewer to supply the story's ending. someone else thought the "liver" was a actually a placenta. i kinda liked that. hope you'll check out the rest of the series so far; "the honeymooners", "one foot out the door", and "all that glitters".

#Sharezone (chat.deviantart.com/chat/Share… is a chatroom hosted by deviantArt in which artists can promote their stuff, discuss everyone else's, or just art in general. There was some speculation about that liver, as in if it was his or hers, the woman with the cocktail. Is he washing her liver so that she may continue to drink? What about the girls wearing the same dress? Why do they look like they are miserable or afraid? Possibly the dresses.

I have indeed checked out your gallery. It's enormously impressive. I stopped at Earth, Fire, and Water because I could no longer formulate words, just mixed emotions of admiration, envy, and desire.

thanks for the explanation about the chatroom, checked it out but couldn't follow the threads or understand alot of the terms and abbreviations... and i love that my painting inspired you and some fellow deviants to think and imagine; i think of all the scenarios you mentioned i was most taken with the "he's washing HER liver so SHE can drink more...now that's a devoted husband!" thanks for imagining...sincerely, cynda

Yeah, that channel goes by pretty quickly and can be difficult to parse before you can figure out how to separate the information from the noise.

The discussion was fun. I am glad I found your gallery. Happy New Year.
